Pilates and Private Health Rebates – Can I claim for Private Health Insurance rebate with Hi-Life Pilates?
Interested in Clinical Pilates to help with an injury, rehabilitation or general strength and mobility?
You may be able to claim a private health insurance rebate for Pilates, depending on your health fund and level of cover.
Since Pilates was re-included in private health insurance benefits in April 2025, some health funds now offer rebates under certain Extras cover.
However, what you can claim — and how you claim it — depends on your health fund and the type of benefit available.
Health Management & Healthy Lifestyle Programs
Many health funds offer Pilates rebates through Health Management or Healthy Lifestyle programs.
These programs are generally designed to support people with a specific health need or condition identified by a GP or allied health professional.
The following health funds currently offer Pilates rebates through these types of programs:
Eligibility and requirements vary between health funds.
👉 Please contact your health fund directly to check whether you are eligible and what documentation or approval you may need.
What About Higher-Level Clinical Rebates?
Some health funds have indicated that they may offer Pilates rebates through a more formal clinical or therapeutic pathway.
This may involve recognised providers, specific item codes and structured service requirements.
Medibank
Medibank has indicated that it plans to introduce rebates for Therapeutic Pilates using Pilates item codes.
However, implementation has been postponed and no start date has been provided yet.
Bupa
Bupa has indicated that it is still reviewing what Pilates rebates it may provide.
Not Sure If You Can Claim?
Private health insurance policies can vary, even between people with the same health fund.
The best way to check is to contact your health fund directly and ask:
“Does my Extras cover include a rebate for Pilates, Clinical Pilates or Therapeutic Pilates?”
You can also ask about any eligibility requirements, annual limits, waiting periods or pre-approval that may apply.
Please check with your private health fund before booking if you are relying on a rebate.
